A delightful combination of Achilleion Palace, Old Heritage Town with horse drawn carriage ride followed by champagne cocktail at a Lounge Restaurant overlooking the sea.
Achilleion Palace
Our tour begins with a scenic drive to the imposing Achilleion Palace. The tranquil island of Corfu, known to the Greeks as Kerkira, was where Empress Elizabeth of Austria chose to take refuge, far from the obligations of the Hapsburg court. The Empress, a lover of solitude, spent much time surrounded by the peace and quiet of the island, admiring its beautiful landscapes. She immediately ordered a palace to be built, Achilleion, which, after her death, was bought by Kaiser William II, also enchanted by the beauty of Corfu. Accompanied by your local guide you will enter the fascinating and fairytale world of Achilleion, the home that the Empress dedicated to her favourite hero, Achilles. This sumptuously decorated palace is surrounded by magnificent gardens sweeping down to the sea.
Old Corfu Town
Our leisurely tour continues to the Old Town of Corfu, the island’s capital. Here, guests will have the opportunity to enjoy a walking tour of the Old Town. With its Venetian forts and neo-classical housing, the old town was inscribed on UNESCO’s World Heritage List as a fortified Mediterranean port town of high integrity and authenticity. The heart of the town, built on the side of a hill, contains a labyrinth of small alleyways criss-crossing larger, bustling streets abound with typical old craftsmen’s workshops.
Discover all the facinating sites like Saint Spyridon Church, protector of the island, the interesting municipality and the charming narrow alleyways of the Old Venetian Town.
Visit the famous Esplanade, one of the largest squares in Europe, and the elegant Liston, which access in the past was only allowed to the aristocracy of Corfu, written down in the “Libro d’Oro”. Here, you will board your horse drawn carriage for a leisurely ride through the Old Town of Corfu. The historic Old Town, lying between two Byzantine-era citadels, with its high tenements, narrow serpentine kandounia (streets) and charming little piazzas crammed with cafés and pastry shops, will captivate you with the beauty and charm of its Venetian-style architecture, more reminiscent of Venice than of a typical Greek town.
Your carriage will travel along the coastal road of the picturesque Bay of Garitsa, the small marina, and the 14th century Old Venetian Fortress – now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Upon completion of the tour, guests will enjoy a champagne cocktail with canapés at a delightful Lounge Restaurant overlooking the sea.
